The Barnwood House Trust
This Trust is based in Gloucestershire and primarily supports people
with disabilities in this area. The Trusts main sectors for support
are: People with a serious physical disability, people with chronic
mental illness and people with learning disabilities.
The Trust also run a day home for older people with disabilities,
run sheltered housing and have several bungalows which have been
purpose built to accommodate wheelchair users.

Other Trusts
There are a number of trusts nationally who are willing to help
with anything from the purchase of disability equipment, including
wheelchairs and adaptations to driving lessons for sole carers!
Here are two that I know of, and know of people who have applied
successfully for financial assistance. For more details of these

The Family Fund Trust

Get Kids Going
Phone: 020 7481 8110. This Charity gives disabled children the opportunity
to take part in sports by providing specially built sports wheelchairs.
They also provide personalised wheelchairs, trikes and other mobility

Funderfinder
There are many Charities and Trusts who offer grants to disabled
individuals and families with a disabled child/young person. Some
of these Charities and Trusts offer grants to help with the purchase
of equipment, holidays or computers etc., others will assist with
the cost of home adaptations.
Most of the Charities and Trusts need to contacted by letter in
the first instance so that an application form can be sent out;
very often these application forms will then need to be filled in
by a third party such as a social worker, G.P. or health visitor.
The Key co-ordinator holds up-to-date Directories of Grant Making
Trusts and also has access to 'Funderfinder', which is a database
of UK Charities and Trusts. To use Funderfinder, The Key co-ordinator
will need to know the following:
- 1. Applicant's age
- 2. Where they were born
- 3. Where they now live
- 4. Details of their illness and/or disability
- 5. Their religion (if any)
- 6. The occupation or previous occupation of the child's/young person's parent(s)
- 7. What the grant is required for
Funderfinder will then provide a list of relevant Charities and
Trusts who you can then contact to see if they might be able to
help.
