Changes to SEN Support for young people – tell us what you think?

The Government is changing the law on special educational needs (SEN).  The changes are designed to give young people a greater say over what support and services are available locally.  The changes are also aimed at giving young people a greater say in their own support.   From September 2014, those changes also mean that everyone aged 0-25 with SEN will have a single plan, setting out all of the support a young person needs in one place called an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan.  The EHC plan will replace statements of SEN and will continue into further education and training and for some young people up to the age of 25.

The County Council will also need to produce information it expects to be available locally known as the ‘Local Offer’.  A draft version of Gloucestershire’s Local Offer can be found here .  The pack isn’t finished yet.  This is because we want you to tell us what you think.  Do you think there is enough support for you?  What’s missing?

You can tell us what you think here on The Key website by leaving a reply to this post.  You can also email The Key using the ‘Contact’ tab on this website or contact us by phone  on 08456 583857.  We look forward to hearing from you.
