Take part in Learning Disability Week 2014

Next week is Learning Disability Week (16 – 22 June 2014) and this year’s theme is ‘your first…’. Anyone can get involved: you can tweet about your first time experiences by using the twitter hashtag #LDWeek14; you can share your stories on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Mencap ; or you can find out what’s going on by visiting our website http://www.mencap.org.uk/get-involved/learning-disability-week.

There are going to be Learning Disability Week events taking place all over the country. Here are some that are happening in our area:

  • Gloucestershire County Council have put together a programme of events with partner organisations across the county. There will be drop-in events, opportunities to meet health professionals and opportunities to try different leisure and social activities. For more information, please see the attached programme or visit their website http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/ldweek2014
  • Coventry Mencap & Wayfarers Club are holding a tea dance on Saturday 21 June. There will be tea, cake, music and dancing. Please see the attached flyer for more details or visit their website  http://coventrymencapwayfarers.wordpress.com/2014/06/05/tea-dance/
  • Heart of England Mencap are planning activities across their services throughout the week and will be sharing stories of people’s first time experiences. They will have a market stall at Stratford-upon-Avon market on Friday 20 June (9.00am – 3.00pm) where they will be talking to people about Learning Disability Week – please feel free to stop by for a chat if you’re in the area!
